"One of the Pharisees asked him to eat with him, and he went into the Pharisee’s house and reclined at the table. And behold, a woman of the city, who was a sinner, when she learned that he was reclining at table in the Pharisee’s house, brought an alabaster flask of ointment, and standing behind him at his feet, weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears and wiped them with the hair of her head and kissed his feet and anointed them with the ointment. Now when the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself, “If this man were a prophet, he would have known who and what sort of woman this is who is touching him, for she is a sinner.” Luke 7:36-39 ESV
Many of us are like this woman from the city; packed with sin and immorality. We walk around being judged and talked about by others. Not knowingly that those too that judge, are in our same shoes - only because you sin differently than someone does not make you better than that person... A sin is a sin, is a sin is a sin - This sinful woman came to Christ, with a heart full of love and cleansed His feet and than anointed him with perfume. The courage this woman must of had, the love, the faith; she must of had when she entered into the Pharisee's house. They knew her sinful life, everyone did, but yet she decided to enter the house anyway.
And how did Jesus react to this??
He didn't kick his feet away and commanded her to leave... What did He do?.. He sat there and allowed her to finish cleansing his feet and anointing him with the ointment. He knew the love she had in her heart for Him. Not only did she demonstrate it by cleansing and anointing him but also by not denying him and entering a house she knew she would be condemned in. You see, some of us are scared or have second thoughts about seeking God because of this, our past, things we've done. But look at how great and marvelous our Lord is... How merciful and gracious He is. After this unnamed woman finished demonstrating her love, he said to her "Your sins are forgiven."
Therefore I tell you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven—for she loved much. But he who is forgiven little, loves little.” And he said to her, “Your sins are forgiven.” .... And he said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you; go in peace.” (Luke 7:47-48, 50 ESV)
I don't know about you but these verses bring joy to my heart, to know that everything that we have done, every incriminating act that we have done is forgiven when we hole heartily seek The Lord. When we go to Him with honest hearts, with hearts focused on God and God alone. When we go to Him, humbled, not caring about peoples opinion's about us and ask for forgiveness. Although this woman did not speak, her actions spoke and demonstrated what was in her heart. And if Jesus, awesome King of Kings and Lord of Lords, was able to forgive this immoral woman and transform her life by just saying "your sins are forgiven" imagine the transformation He can do for us in our lives..
